This book is a must for serious yoga students and teachers. Very comprehensive, this book must be called the "New Bible of Yoga", is very complete from different angles, specially on the sequences, well integrated and with a lot of sense in each of them. The description of the asanas and transitions from one asana to another with good pictures as helping guide, is one of my favorite parts. I use to frequently grab my Iyengar's Light on Yoga for my study and guiding instructions, but with this book, I have it more complete and with a modern language appealing to the tradition of yoga, now I keep both books as my main source for improving my practice.Congratulations to the author, really beautiful work.

I agree with all of the comments of the others - this book and moreover the practice of Skanda Yoga is something extremely special. There are many things to say about it's advantages and the thoughtful and precise way that the creators laid out the various different aspects of the practice (not only the Asana), however the best way is just to get the book and start the practice, and see for yourself.
In my mind, I consider this book to be the Skanda practice version of David Swenson's Ashtanga Practice Manual and I equate the practice itself to a modernized and perfected version of traditional styles. in layman's terms - they took the best from Ashtanga and Iyengar, and applied modern principles to create a deeper, more meaningful and less injurious practice.
This is an essential book for everyone who enjoys practicing yoga. If you also teach yoga, I guarantee this will become your number one reference guide for your practice and teaching. Since I began practicing Skanda yoga 2 years ago, this practice has changed my life. Now with the publication of this book, the teachings and insights of Skanda Yoga are available to everyone. The Practice of Skanda Yoga book gives you the tools for refining your poses using dynamic alignment principles and advanced strengthening and stretching techniques. I just love this book, is indeed a complete Yoga practice for teachers or practitioners, every pose is explained in detail to practice it or teach it, all the sequences are placed in a studied order to really go deeper into a Yoga Practice, this is the perfect companion for anyone that wants to learn more about yoga or wants to teach yoga, on the back there are sequences that you can study and practice, this is a life companion no need for more Yoga asanas books, the autor really have create what I call a Yoga Bible everything you need is there..OM
I love The practice of Skanda Yoga! This is a practical yoga guide that introduces and explains what is to me the most complete and fascinating contemporary yoga style Skanda Yoga. The book discusses yoga philosophy, mythology, basic alignment principles, energetic system, breathing exercises, and scientific stretching techniques among many other essential aspects of yoga in a very thorough and comprehensive way. Additionally, the book presents hundreds of yoga postures with pictures, concise explanations, benefits and contraindications, as well as 20 class sequences with three levels of intensity; all intelligently designed to help the practitioner build and advance their yoga practice in a dynamic and safe way. Skanda Yoga has become my go-to guide for self practice, i highly recommend it !
I have used this book as a reference and learning guide since finishing my teacher training. It is so easy to use, a great way to familiarize yourself with poses that many teachers do not regularly teach and priceless for the amount of detail that has gone into explaining and breaking down each posture. The Skanda sequences are also included and can work for any new teacher that is lost or confused on what a sequence should include or how it should flow, creating a guide for even those teachers that don't teach Skanda. I have a stack of yoga books by my bedside, but this one I keep at my studio along with a stack available to purchase for my students and teachers alike. I highly recommend it and believe it should be required text for any yoga school as much as Light On Yoga by BKS Iyengar. It's modern, attainable, and layout immaculately. The photos along with the text and cross references for easy use is invaluable for any Vinyasa yoga teacher or student and should be on the shelf of every yoga library. After years of work to complete this project it is apparent it truly was labor of love and dedication from its author KF von Roenn III and I believe it will be regarded as one of the best books on the practice of yoga in modern times.
One of the best written and most comprehensive yoga books I have read in years. Highly recommended for the serious seeker and yogi.
